Trump declares US 'total control' over Strait of Hormuz, vows to keep it

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday declared that Washington exercises complete control over the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most vital maritime chokepoints for global energy shipments. In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump wrote: "The U.S.A. has total control over the Strait of Hormuz. I think we will keep it." He characterised the ongoing American naval blockade as a "wall of steel" and added dismissively: "There is nothing Iran can do about it." The comments mark a significant escalation in rhetorical tensions between the two nations, as the US military continues to enforce strict maritime restrictions in the strategic waterway.

US military actions and Iranian response

US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that American forces have redirected 59 commercial vessels, disabled three, and boarded two ships since the blockade intensified, aiming "to ensure full compliance" with the naval restrictions. Trump further claimed that Iran's military capabilities have been effectively neutralised, asserting that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has been "decimated and fleeing." He painted a grim picture of Iran's domestic situation, stating: "All they have is fake news and 300% inflation, and getting worse! Iran is all talk and no action, the bully of the Middle East no longer." Tehran has yet to issue an official response to the latest remarks.

The Middle East has remained on edge since the US-Israeli military campaign against Iran began in late February.
