UK confirms role in US seizure of Russian oil tanker in Atlantic

The United Kingdom has officially acknowledged its involvement in a US-led naval operation that resulted in the seizure of a Russian-flagged oil tanker in the North Atlantic. UK Defense Secretary John Healey stated that British forces provided support for the successful interception of the vessel, identified as the 'Bella 1', which was en route to Russia.

In a statement on Wednesday, Healey praised the "skill and professionalism" of the UK Armed Forces in supporting the operation. He framed the action as a component of "global efforts to crack down on sanctions busting." The Defense Secretary sharply criticized the tanker's role, alleging it was "part of a Russian-Iranian axis of sanctions evasion which is fuelling terrorism, conflict, and misery from the Middle East to Ukraine."

Concurrently, US forces announced the seizure of the tanker, also named Marinera, for violations of American sanctions.
