Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and Chinese President Xi Jinping

Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin in Beijing on Tuesday, reaffirming both countries’ intention to deepen economic and strategic cooperation despite global tensions. The talks focused on expanding bilateral trade and strengthening coordination between Moscow and Beijing amid shifting international dynamics.

Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin held talks in Beijing on Tuesday, emphasizing the importance of closer China-Russia cooperation in trade and economic development. The meeting, reported by China’s official Xinhua News Agency, took place at the Great Hall of the People, a venue often used for high-level diplomatic engagements.

Bilateral cooperation and economic focus

During the discussions, Xi highlighted the need to advance joint projects that would benefit both economies, underlining that Beijing values its “comprehensive partnership” with Moscow. Mishustin, who arrived in China a day earlier, echoed Xi’s view, saying that collaboration between the two neighbors remains strong “despite turbulence in global politics and the global economy.”

Meetings in Hangzhou strengthen coordination

Before meeting Xi, Mishustin attended the 30th regular meeting of China-Russia heads of government in Hangzhou, where he spoke with Chinese Premier Li Qiang. The two officials reviewed ongoing economic cooperation and pledged to enhance trade mechanisms and regional connectivity. According to Li, Beijing aims to boost strategic communication with Moscow and ensure that the two countries continue to support each other’s development and security priorities.

Deepening ties amid shifting global order

Beijing and Moscow have expanded economic collaboration in recent years, particularly in the energy and technology sectors. Analysts note that both nations are seeking to reduce dependency on Western markets while building new trade corridors through Central Asia. The latest talks signal that China and Russia intend to maintain steady diplomatic and economic momentum, a move closely watched by Türkiye and other regional partners balancing relations between East and West.
