Zelenskyy says Ukraine maintaining gas supplies despite Russian attacks
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated the country is ensuring reliable gas supplies by diversifying import routes, despite ongoing attacks on energy infrastructure. The announcement comes as Kyiv receives emergency energy equipment from international partners, including Germany.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has asserted that the country is maintaining a stable supply of natural gas for its population despite severe challenges to its energy sector. Following a meeting with top officials, Zelenskyy stated on Thursday that Ukraine continues to import sufficient gas volumes and has significantly diversified its supply routes to mitigate the impact of Russian attacks on critical infrastructure.

Focus on Infrastructure Repair and International Support

President Zelenskyy emphasized the urgent need to repair and replace damaged equipment, a task for which he thanked international partners. He highlighted recent financial agreements, including a €50 million deal with the European Investment Bank, noting that the EIB and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development are providing the bulk of financial support for Ukraine's energy resilience. Naftogaz, the state energy company, is also importing electricity to cover more than half of its own operational needs.

Delivery of Emergency Aid from Germany

In a related development, Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko announced the arrival of the first batch of emergency energy equipment from Germany, part of a winter support package now valued at €120 million. The initial delivery includes cogeneration units, generators, and other critical gear, which is expected to provide light and heat for over 86,000 residents of Kyiv. Further shipments, comprising dozens of additional power units and heating systems, are scheduled to arrive soon to aid millions across the country.

Strategic Importance of Energy Security

President Zelenskyy declared a state of emergency in the energy sector earlier this month due to a combination of extreme weather and targeted Russian strikes that have caused widespread blackouts. Ensuring energy security is a vital component of Ukraine's wartime endurance and civilian welfare. The situation highlights the broader economic dimensions of the conflict, where infrastructure resilience and international aid are as critical as military support. For nations like Türkiye, which advocates for a diplomatic resolution, the humanitarian and infrastructural toll of the war remains a central concern.
