The secularist party will resume its election campaign, suspended temporarily due to terror threats, by contacting potential voters in person
The Republican People's Party (CHP) suspended its election rallies across metropolitan cities for a couple of weeks for security reasons, said a source from the party.
CHP's decision to postpone its decision is linked with the twin suicide bombings in which the death toll climbed to 97 at around 11 pm on Wednesday.
Erdoğan Toprak, the chief adviser of CHP leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, said the CHP has decided to postpone holding huge rallies until Dec. 1 because of Saturday's terror attack in the Turkish capital, Ankara. “Rather, we will visit districts and personally contact citizens as part of the election campaign."
The CHP's election candidates will hold face-to-face talks with opinion leaders and officials from NGOs and leading business groups, Toprak said.
The opposition CHP party has cancelled its election rally, previously scheduled to be held in central Samsun, a city on the Black Sea coast. “We will visit the city's districts, beginning with a rally in Bafra. We will gather with tradesmen and locals in public places," Toprak explained.
According to Toprak, the party's election rallies in southern Turkey will cover meetings with local tradesmen at their stores and residents, resting at coffee houses.
“We will explain the problems Turkey is facing as well as the solutions the CHP will apply if it comes to power," he added.
