Turkish jets pound PKK targets a day after a deadly bomb attack on a peace rally in Ankara, says the military
Turkey's General Chief of Staff announced that 17 PKK terrorists have been neutralized in the most recent airstrikes by the country's air forces.
War planes hit Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, targets during the air strikes, which have been ongoing in the southeastern Hakkari province, said the General Staff on its official site.
Three caves, an ammunition storage and terrorist positions were successfully destroyed in Sunday's airstrikes, the military said.
In the land military action conducted by troops, 900 anti-aircraft weapons, 242 Kalashnikovs, 409 Dochka machine guns were discovered along with a rocket-propelled grenade, or RPG-7.
The military also said documents containing PKK propaganda, and certain equipment for survival, are among the terrorist materials discovered during the ongoing operations in the region.
Meanwhile, an expert suggests the deadly bomb blasts in Ankara could be the result of a cooperation between the PKK and the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, or ISIL, citing the relationship that has developed between outlawed organizations since the anti-government demonstrations in 2013.
“All signs have indicated that Saturday's blasts were carried out to drag Turkey into an uncertain climate before the upcoming elections. Our initial findings, however, showed ISIL is behind the incident," he said, “So, we are completely focused on ISIL.“
