As the clashes between Turkish security forces and PKK terrorists intensify, the number of terrorists surrendering continues to increase
With six more Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) terrorists surrendering to Turkish authorities in Turkey's southeastern Şırnak province, the number of surrendered PKK members has been rising. According to a statement by the Şırnak Governor's Office, the six PKK militants, who surrendered to Turkish authorities, did so by escaping from the terrorist organization.
The statement also included that the total number of PKK members who surrendered to Turkish authorities between March 21, 2013 and Oct. 13, 2015 has reached 959.
Turkey has been carrying out operations against the PKK within and without Turkey since July 24, 2015.
Since July 24, around 2,000 people have been arrested in the wave of counterterrorism raids amid a spike in attacks targeting security officers after the July 20 deadly suicide bombing in southeastern Suruç district that killed 34. The suicide bombing was blamed on the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).
Turkish security forces have been carrying out nationwide operations to apprehend suspected members of the PKK, ISIL, and the far-left Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C) – all three groups are designated as terrorist groups in Turkey.
