Turkey's new PM says country's current constitution must be changed immediately due to lack of convergence with Turkey's 2023 targets
In his first speech at the AK Party group meeting, Turkey's new Prime Minister and the leader of Turkey's ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party Binali Yıldırım said he has the historic opportunity to change the constitution to match the current situation.
"Since the president was elected by popular vote, the country's current constitution is far from meeting its needs and work should begin immediately on a new text. Everyone must understand that Turkey cannot reach its 2023 targets with a constitution from a military coup," Yıldırım said after declaring the new cabinet.
"Works on changing to presidential system will start immediately. This will be among the priorities of the AK Party," said Yıldırım.
Yıldırım also emphasized the significance of Turkey's efforts against terrorism by saying that Turkey will continue taking steps both against PKK terrorists and the parallel state.
"As our counterterrorism efforts continue, we will also continue fighting against the parallel state. One state, one nation, one flag is essential.”
The Prime Minister also touched upon investments, saying that the economy is not about banks but production, adding investment and production will be encouraged throughout Turkey.
"The first priority is growth through production," he added.
