Ankara is likely to see the second high-level US military official's visit while the two Daesh strongholds – Fallujah in Iraq and Raqqa in Syria – are being targeted by coalition forces
Top US commander in Europe is expected to be in Ankara on Wednesday just a day after the US-led coalition began strikes to hit Daesh.
Gen Curtis Michael M Scaparrotti, the commander of U.S. European Command, will reportedly hold crucial talks with Turkish Army chief Gen Hulusi Akar. It is unclear if he is scheduled to meet senior officials at the Foreing Ministry.
The four-star general in the US Army is also the current Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) of NATO Allied Command Operations.
Scaparrotti is the second senior US military official to visit Ankara two days after General Joseph Votel, the head of the US Central Command (Centcom) made a visit following his secret meeting with US military experts and Kurdish military officials, controlling YPG fightrers in Kobane, a Syrian border town.
Scaparroti's visit to Ankara will be likely focus on the offensives which began on Tuesday to strike Daesh targets in Raqqa in Syria and Fallujah in Iraq, the group's strongholds.
Raqqa is facing the largest campaign by the US-led coalition forces since it was captured by the terror group.
Coalition fighter jets launched heavy bombing on the city at 2:00 pm local time on Tuesday while the YPG militant forces and Democratic Syrian Forces (DSF) launched a ground offensive to strike Daesh targets.
Local sources said 12,000 fighters from different armed groups are involved in the offensive.
Meanwhile, another operation has been launched by the Iraqi army to retake the Iraqi city of Fallujah from Daesh terrorists. The operation is also supported by the US-led coalition jets and Shia militia groups.
