Turkey's incoming AK Party leader says Turkey needs a new constitution and government's most important mission is to change constitution
Turkey needs a new constitution and the government's most important mission is to change the constitution and bring about an executive presidency, incoming Prime Minister Binali Yiıldırım said.
"Our president received votes of our millions of citizens and bears their responsibilities…That's why, the most importing work we must do today is to make this de facto situation legal and end this confusion. Its way out is a new constitution, a presidential system in the new constitution," said Yıldırım in his speech at the congress on Sunday.
"AK Party will continue to work in harmony and change of the leadership is just a tool to open way for more services," Yıldırım said.
Turkey's Yıldırım said struggle against terrorism will continue in same way after the change of leadership in ruling party.
Yıldırım also said counter-terrorism operations will continue until the terrorist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) end its attacks.
The European Union needs to end "confusion" about its migration policies and Turkey needs to know how the bloc thinks of it, Yıldırım said.
Yıldırım also said that Turkey would continue regulations to improve human rights and democracy whether or not EU membership happens.
Yıldırım is set to become the next head of the AK Party and therefore premier, at the congress on Sunday, replacing Ahmet Davutoğlu who announced plans to step down this month.
