Turkish and Finnish leaders visit the scene of the heinous attack in the country's capital and lay carnations in memory of the victims
Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his Finnish counterpart Sauli Niinistö on Wednesday visited the scene of the twin suicide bombings in Ankara, laying carnations for the victims who were killed in the country's worst ever attack.
The two observed one-minute silence in memory of the victims. Finnish president and first lady Jenni Haukio were engaged in a private investigation about the bombings in a clear message showing Finland stands by the grief-stricken Turks, still coping with anger and deep shock.
Interior Minister Selami Altınok and Turkey's first lady Emine Erdoğan also accompanied the leaders in their visit to the scene of the bombing.
Niinistö began his four-day official visit to Turkey on Monday. His visit comes after the deadly attack, carried out just weeks before the early elections. The visiting president had huddled with Erdoğan on Tuesday.
Turkey has declared three days of mourning for the victims of the twin explosions in which almost 100 are known to have been killed so far. The powerful explosions were the deadliest terror attack in modern Turkey's history, surpassing the 2003 terror attack in Istanbul, which was carried out by al-Qaida, leaving 60 people dead.
