Yunus Emre Alagoz officially identified as one of bombers who killed 102 in Oct. 10 blasts
One of the suicide bombers responsible for the Ankara attack that killed 102 people was officially identified Monday.
In a statement, the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's office said: “One of the perpetrators of the twin Ankara bombings has been identified as Yunus Emre Alagoz. The other suicide bomber was confirmed by a photo image and a series of tests have been carried out to identify him or her."
The prosecutor's office said Alagoz had come to Turkey from Syria but gave no time frame for his return.
The statement also revealed that weapons, grenades and bomb-making materials were seized as part of the investigation into the attack.
“The office concluded that those [materials] were planned to be used in other bomb attacks by the suspects," the statement added. “The office thinks the efforts exerted as part of this investigation also managed to prevent possible attacks planned by the suspects."
The total numbers of those arrested in connection with the attack was not disclosed but dozens of suspected Daesh supporters have been rounded up in the days following the bombing.
The statement came after Ankara's Sixth Criminal Court of Peace, which imposed a temporary ban on showing images of Oct. 10 bomb attack, removed the blackout Monday following a request from the Bureau of Crimes Against Constitutional Order, which is part of the prosecutor's office.
The Supreme Board of Radio and Television imposed the ban within hours of the attack on a group of peace protestors outside Ankara's main train station on grounds of “public security".
The blasts came as Turkey faces a general election re-run on Nov. 1.
