Recep Tayyip Erdogan says Ankara sent 3 cargo planes with aid to North African country

Türkiye stands with Libya which has been hit by devastating floods after Storm Daniel, the Turkish president said on Tuesday.

"Just as Türkiye has never left the Libyan people alone until today, in these difficult times, we are by our brothers' side with all our resources," Recep Tayyip Erdogan said while speaking at the New Constitution Symposium organized by Türkiye's Communications Directorate in Ankara.

He said Türkiye has so far sent to Libya three cargo planes with aid, adding: "Our goal is to ensure Libya's wounds are healed as soon as possible."

More than 3,000 people have died and many others remain unaccounted for due to the weekend catastrophe in eastern Libya. The cities of Benghazi, Al Bayda and Al-Marj, as well as Soussa and Derna are the worst affected.


- New Constitution

Regarding efforts to introduce a new Constitution in Türkiye, Erdogan said: "We have not given up on our goal of achieving a new, civilian, democratic, freedom-oriented, and inclusive Constitution for our country."

"We will never cease working, striving, and fighting until we introduce the new Constitution, which is one of the elements of our Century of Türkiye vision, to our people."

He added: "I am addressing all political parties, civil society, and academics: let's talk, discuss, and negotiate to find the most ideal Constitution text."

Erdogan said the new document's aim to is prioritize humanity, and reflect the diversity and richness of the Turkish nation.
