Activists protest West Bank home sieges by Israeli occupiers

Hundreds of Palestinian residents, alongside foreign and left-wing Israeli activists, gathered in the occupied West Bank town of Qusra on Friday to protest the continued siege of three Palestinian homes in the Ras al-Ain area. The demonstration, which drew participants from various backgrounds, aimed to deliver food, water, and medicine to families who have been trapped inside their homes for five consecutive days. Israeli forces deployed heavily around the area, preventing activists from reaching the residences directly and declaring the vicinity a "closed military zone."

Activists Defy Restrictions to Deliver Aid

Despite military obstruction, protesters successfully managed to pass essential supplies to the besieged families. Left-wing Israeli activist Jonathan Pollak told Anadolu that solidarity activists attempted to deliver aid to the families, who have been unable to leave their homes for nearly a week. "They cannot go out to buy food or water. They cannot enter the town, visit a doctor or do anything," Pollak stated, adding that the siege imposed by Israeli occupiers has been coordinated with broader military restrictions on movement in the area. Arab solidarity activist Houriya Al-Saadi, who traveled from Ramla to participate, described the soldiers' conduct as "harsher than anything we had seen," noting that the siege appeared designed to pressure Palestinians into abandoning their land.

Growing Concerns Over Land Seizure

Around 80 Israeli activists, including members of Rabbis for Human Rights, joined the protest. Anton Goodman, the organization's acting director, emphasized that the families have endured attacks "without any accountability or punishment" and that activists brought water and food to support them. The protest came a day after hundreds of Israeli soldiers raided Qusra, seizing 16 Palestinian homes and converting them into military barracks, according to Abdul Azim Wadi, head of the town council. While troops withdrew from some homes on Friday morning, the three families in Ras al-Ain remain under siege, with occupiers having erected tents, blocked roads, and cut water and electricity lines since Sunday.

Human Rights Violations and Escalating Tensions

The siege has drawn attention to broader patterns of land seizure and displacement in the West Bank. Activists and residents fear the occupation forces aim to force the families to leave, enabling the seizure of their properties. UN Human Rights Office findings have confirmed that Israeli forces previously prevented paramedics, activists, and journalists from reaching the besieged families. The intensification of such attacks since October 2023 has prompted Palestinian and international warnings over growing land confiscation and displacement across the occupied West Bank.
