Masoud Pezeshkian said the Pakistan-mediated memorandum with Washington would become the “cornerstone” of Tehran’s foreign policy, defending the agreement on social media as both nations remain locked in conflict following the collapse of a June ceasefire and renewed US aerial bombardments that have intensified regional tensions.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Sunday endorsed the recently signed memorandum of understanding with the United States as a foundational document for Tehran’s diplomatic future, posting on social media that the agreement reflected unified national security consensus.

Pezeshkian defends agreement

Pezeshkian said on X that the document emerged from deliberations among senior officials. “The memorandum of understanding that was signed was the result of the collective wisdom of the Supreme National Security Council members, and all members are aligned with it,” he wrote. He added that the pact would shape Iran’s international posture for years to come.

“I believe this memorandum of understanding will become the cornerstone of our foreign relations in the future,” Pezeshkian stated. He emphasized that adherence to the signed terms would strengthen national and regional security, noting that Tehran would press Washington to honor its commitments under the deal.

Ceasefire collapse

The statement comes amid heightened hostilities between Washington and Tehran. The two nations signed the Pakistan-mediated accord in June following an April ceasefire, but the arrangement unraveled last month when the US initiated 13 consecutive days of aerial bombardment targeting Iranian positions.

Washington attributed the strikes to Iranian attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, while Tehran responded with missile and drone campaigns against Gulf Arab states hosting American military installations. The violence marked the collapse of the June understanding that had initially halted weeks of cross-border fire.

Trump confirms halted strike

US President Donald Trump said Saturday he had canceled a planned military operation against Iran after requests from Tehran and regional capitals for additional time to negotiate. Writing on Truth Social, Trump indicated that Israel had joined the commitment to pursue diplomatic channels.

The American leader claimed both sides had agreed to the “perimeters” of a comprehensive settlement. The framework would include the “immediate, complete, and total” reopening of the strategic Strait of Hormuz alongside provisions to eliminate Iran’s nuclear weapons potential, he said.
