Qatar to restore full maritime traffic from Sunday

Qatar’s transport authority has announced the complete reopening of its waters to all vessel types starting April 12. Licensed fishing boats will be exempt from daytime restrictions, operating around the clock. Officials urged all operators to follow safety protocols.
Qatar’s Ministry of Transport confirmed on Saturday that maritime navigation will fully resume for all ships and vessels beginning Sunday, April 12, 2026. The decision marks a return to normal operations following previous restrictions.
Operating hours and fishing exemptions
According to the official statement, sailing will be permitted daily from 06:00 am (0300 GMT) to 06:00 pm (1500 GMT). However, in a separate notice, the ministry added that “sailing is allowed all day long for maritime vessels licensed for fishing activity,” giving local fishermen full flexibility.
Safety compliance urged
The transport authority called on all maritime operators to strictly comply with the new directive. Officials emphasized that proper safety measures must be in place on all vessels navigating Qatari waters. The Gulf state continues to modernize its maritime sector as part of broader economic diversification efforts.
