Russia demands condemnation of US-Israeli strikes on Iranian nuclear sites

Russia has called for strong international condemnation of recent US-Israeli strikes targeting key nuclear-related facilities in Iran, warning that the attacks undermine the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and IAEA verification mechanisms. Moscow urged the nuclear watchdog to speak more clearly on the risks.

Russia issued a sharp rebuke Saturday of US-Israeli strikes on Iranian nuclear-related infrastructure, demanding unequivocal condemnation from the international community. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said the attacks on facilities in Ardakan, Bushehr, and Khondab—home to key nuclear sites—represent “egregious violations of international law” that cannot be ignored. “These attacks deserve unequivocal and resolute condemnation from the entire international community,” Zakharova said in a statement.

Moscow urges IAEA to take stronger stance

Zakharova’s remarks followed Friday’s strikes targeting a yellowcake production facility in Ardakan and the Khondab heavy water facility, alongside reports of attacks near the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant. She called on International Atomic Energy Agency Director General Rafael Grossi to speak “more clearly about the seriousness of the threat that Iran’s adversaries are trying to ignore, if not deny.” Moscow expressed hope that Grossi would convey the need to halt such strikes after receiving information from Iranian authorities about developments on the ground.

Attacks undermine non-proliferation framework

Zakharova warned that the strikes “simply invalidate the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, IAEA verification mechanisms, nuclear safety and security conventions, and the agency’s relevant standards.” She strongly condemned what she described as a “destructive course” and demanded that those responsible cease immediately. The Russian statement comes amid escalating regional hostilities that have drawn increasing international concern. Türkiye, which has consistently advocated for diplomatic solutions and nuclear non-proliferation, has called for restraint and warned that attacks on nuclear facilities pose unacceptable risks to regional and global security.
