World Leaders Gather in Egypt for Critical Gaza Peace Summit

World leaders and senior officials from multiple nations commenced arrivals in Sharm el-Sheikh on Monday for a high-stakes international summit focused on securing a sustainable peace in Gaza. The Red Sea resort city is hosting the diplomatic gathering amid cautious optimism following the implementation of an initial ceasefire.

According to Egypt's state-run Al-Qahera News Channel, early arrivals included French President Emmanuel Macron, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, and Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit. The summit is expected to draw participation from more than twenty world leaders overall.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and US President Donald Trump will co-chair the proceedings, which aim to "end the war in the Gaza Strip, enhance efforts to bring peace and stability to the Middle East, and usher in a new phase of regional security and stability," according to official Egyptian statements.

The diplomatic conference follows the initiation of the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement that took effect Friday under President Trump's peace proposal. The conflict has resulted in over 67,800 Palestinian fatalities since October 2023, with widespread devastation throughout the coastal territory.
