47 Turkish universities ranked among world’s best by CWUR

A total of 47 Turkish universities have been included in the Center for World University Rankings’ 2026 list of the world’s top 2,000 institutions. Hacettepe University ranked highest in Türkiye at 666th globally, followed by Istanbul University, Ankara University, METU, and Boğaziçi University.
The Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) has placed 47 Turkish universities in its 2026 list of the world’s top 2,000 higher education institutions, according to the ranking released on Monday.
Hacettepe leads Turkish institutions
The ranking evaluated more than 21,000 universities from 95 countries based on seven indicators grouped under four categories: education, employability, faculty, and research. Hacettepe University emerged as the highest-ranked Turkish institution, securing 666th place globally. It was followed by Istanbul University at 707th, Ankara University at 733rd, Middle East Technical University (METU) at 736th, Boğaziçi University at 785th, Istanbul Technical University at 813th, Marmara University at 939th, and Koç University at 989th.

Other Turkish universities on the list include Ege University (1,052nd), Çukurova University (1,106th), Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa (1,127th), Bilkent University (1,140th), Gazi University (1,151st), Yıldız Technical University (1,191st), Dokuz Eylül University (1,206th), Erciyes University (1,265th), Gaziantep University (1,289th), and Atatürk University (1,351st). Globally, Harvard University topped the list with full marks across all indicators, followed by MIT, Stanford, Cambridge, Oxford, Princeton, the University of Pennsylvania, Columbia, Yale, and the University of Chicago. Türkiye continues to strengthen its higher education sector, with increasing numbers of universities gaining international recognition in global rankings.
