Iran facing 'worst conditions' of economic warfare: Pezeshkian

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Wednesday that the Islamic Republic is enduring the "worst conditions" of economic warfare, speaking at an online ceremony inaugurating infrastructure projects carried out by the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development, according to the Iranian Students' News Agency.

Economic pressures amid conflict

"Although we are experiencing the worst conditions of economic warfare, everyone sees the missile war, but perhaps not everyone sees the economic pressures. Nevertheless, the work continues, and this is commendable," Pezeshkian said during the event. He praised officials and workers for completing the projects despite mounting pressure, saying their achievements were particularly significant given the conflict facing the country. "Perhaps we would not have been able to accomplish this much under normal circumstances," he noted.

Calls for national solidarity

The president emphasized that Iran could achieve better results through greater public support and official accountability. "I believe we can perform much better. With the solidarity and support of our people, the accountability of officials and the participation of the private sector and investors, we can quickly address the country's problems," he added.

US sanctions campaign

The remarks come as Iran faces sustained economic pressure following Washington's 2018 withdrawal from the nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers. The US reinstated sweeping sanctions under its "maximum pressure" campaign and has since expanded measures targeting Iranian oil exports, financial sector operations and international trade links.
