An Iranian ballistic missile struck the Al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar, a key US military installation, according to Qatari defense officials. No casualties were reported in the strike, which occurred as part of a broader Iranian retaliation against US and Israeli attacks.

An Iranian ballistic missile has struck Al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar, one of the most strategically important US military installations in the Middle East. Qatar's Defense Ministry announced late Tuesday that the base, located southwest of the capital Doha, was hit by one of two missiles launched from Iran, though no casualties were reported.

A Wave of Iranian Projectiles Targeted Qatari Airspace

According to the ministry's statement, Qatari air defense systems successfully intercepted one of the two ballistic missiles, while the second impacted the sprawling base. The ministry did not specify whether the missile caused material damage to the facility. It also revealed that since the beginning of the Iranian attacks, its forces had detected a total of 39 suicide drones, three cruise missiles, and 101 ballistic missiles heading toward Qatari airspace. Officials stated that all 39 drones and 24 missiles were intercepted.

Qatar Affirms Readiness and Calls for Calm

In response to the direct strike on its territory, the Qatari government issued a strong statement regarding its defensive posture. The ministry said the "Qatari Armed Forces possess the full capability to safeguard the country’s sovereignty and territory and remain prepared to respond firmly to any external threat." Authorities urged citizens, residents, and visitors to remain calm, follow official instructions, and rely on verified information rather than rumors.

Context of a Broader Regional War

The strike on the US base is part of a dramatic escalation in Middle Eastern hostilities. It follows large-scale attacks launched by the US and Israel on Iran on Saturday, which reportedly killed nearly 800 people. Iran has retaliated with waves of drone and missile strikes targeting Israel as well as Gulf states hosting American military assets. The direct hit on Al-Udeid, which hosts the US Central Command's forward headquarters and thousands of American troops, marks a significant intensification of the conflict, threatening to draw Gulf nations deeper into a war between Iran and the US-led alliance. The situation is being monitored with extreme concern by other regional powers, including Türkiye, which has urged restraint and a return to diplomacy to prevent a full-scale regional war.
