Pakistani cinemas to screen Turkish films

As the ban on films with Indian content continues, Pakistani cinema owners and film distributors expect to again boost the sector by screening Turkish and Iranian films.

The prohibition was launched in Lahore, Karachi and the capital of Islamad, the largest cities of Pakistan.

Amjad Rashid, head of IMCG which is a leading film distributor corporation in Pakistan, and Mohsin Yaasen, head of Cinepax which is Pakistan's favorite cinema chain, stated that studies for the foreign film screening have started.

Rashid also said; “We decided to compensate for the decline in the cinema sector with Turkish and Iranian films.”

“We are in search of alternatives from world cinema” told Yaseen. “Turkish dramas had a good following in Pakistan. We believe the Turkish films also will be widely acclaimed. There have only been Hollywood, Bollywood and Pakistani films in our cinemas until now.”

It is also reported that there is no agreement on which films the cinemas will air.

Turkish series like “Ask-ı Memnu, Muhteşem Yuzyıl and Fatmagü'ün Suçu Ne?” were watched by large mass in Pakistan.
