YouTube dominates Türkiye internet traffic with 40.6% share

YouTube captured 40.6% of total internet traffic in Türkiye during the first quarter, far ahead of Instagram's 16%, according to official data from the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK), as video streaming continues to dominate national bandwidth usage patterns.
YouTube accounted for 40.6% of total internet traffic in Türkiye during the first three months of the year, dwarfing rival platforms and cementing video streaming as the primary driver of national bandwidth consumption. The figures come from quarterly data released by the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) and compiled by Anadolu Agency.
Streaming platforms lead consumption
The BTK report showed that Instagram ranked a distant second with 16% of overall traffic, while TikTok and Netflix captured 5.6% and 5.5% respectively. In the specific streaming category, YouTube's dominance was even more pronounced at 57.4%, followed by Instagram at 17.4%.
Messaging shifts to social ecosystems
Instant messaging patterns reveal a migration toward social-media-integrated services, with Instagram commanding 58.5% of traffic in this category compared to Facebook Messenger's 26.4%. WhatsApp trailed at 7.3% for messaging but dominated voice-over-IP communication with 61.2% of total VoIP usage.
Gaming traffic distribution
Online gaming activity showed more fragmented metrics during the January-March period, with PlayStation Network leading at 25.4% and Steam following closely at 24.1%. PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds and League of Legends accounted for 9.2% and 6.7% of gaming traffic respectively, according to the BTK figures.
