Türkiye backs peace, ceasefire, and aid for Sudan, Erdogan says

During talks with Sudan's leader in Ankara, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan pledged continued humanitarian assistance and called for urgent steps to halt violence and achieve a ceasefire, while vowing to deepen bilateral cooperation.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has reaffirmed Türkiye's commitment to peace and stability in Sudan during high-level talks with the country's Sovereignty Council Chairman, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, in Ankara. Erdogan emphasized support for Sudan's territorial integrity and called for a lasting ceasefire to end the devastating conflict that has created a major humanitarian crisis.
Call to end violence and humanitarian commitment
President Erdogan warned that the ongoing fighting has precipitated "one of the world’s largest humanitarian crises," with acts amounting to crimes against humanity, particularly in the El Fasher region. He called for "serious and determined steps" to stop the violence and stated that Türkiye would continue to meet the urgent needs of the Sudanese people through sustained humanitarian aid deliveries.
Plans to expand bilateral cooperation
Beyond the immediate crisis, the discussions focused on strengthening long-term bilateral relations. Erdogan expressed Ankara's aim to deepen cooperation with Sudan in key sectors, including trade, agriculture, the defense industry, and mining. This indicates a strategic intent to build a multifaceted partnership that extends beyond humanitarian support to include economic and security dimensions.
Regional diplomacy and future outlook
The meeting, which also covered regional and global developments, underscores Türkiye's active diplomatic role in Africa. By hosting Sudan's transitional leader and advocating for a peaceful resolution, Ankara positions itself as a key stakeholder invested in Sudan's stability and post-conflict recovery.
