Türkiye welcomes US-brokered peace deal between DR Congo and Rwanda

The Turkish Foreign Ministry has welcomed the Washington-brokered peace agreement between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda, commending the diplomatic efforts led by the United States and Qatar.
Türkiye has formally welcomed the landmark peace agreement signed between the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Rwanda, endorsing the diplomatic initiative that seeks to end years of conflict in eastern Congo. In a statement released on Friday, the Turkish Foreign Ministry expressed support for the "Washington Accords for Peace and Prosperity," which were brokered by the United States with Qatar's involvement.
Commendation for Diplomatic Mediators
The ministry specifically praised the mediators behind the deal, stating, "We commend the diplomatic efforts of all actors involved in the process, particularly the USA and Qatar." This acknowledgment highlights the multi-party diplomacy that facilitated the agreement, signed by the leaders of both African nations in Washington on Thursday after protracted negotiations.
Hope for Regional Stability in the Great Lakes
In its statement, Ankara expressed hope that the accords will lead to a durable resolution of the persistent conflict in eastern DRC, a region destabilized by the long-standing offensive of the M23 rebel group. The ministry further emphasized the potential for the deal to enhance overall "stability of the Great Lakes Region," underscoring Türkiye's interest in broader African security.
Reaffirmation of Türkiye's Commitment to African Peace
Reiterating its foreign policy stance, the Turkish Foreign Ministry affirmed that "Türkiye will continue to support the efforts aimed at promoting peace, security and stability in Africa." This aligns with Ankara's increased diplomatic and developmental engagement across the continent in recent years, positioning itself as a stakeholder in African stability and conflict resolution.
